How do I submit an article/paper/photograph/meteorology question/letter to the Editor to your Journal?

You can submit an article to editorial @ ijmet.org directly on your word document, with separate independent graphic files for your Figures/Tables or pictures. Or, you can send a hard copy to the postal address on the Contact Us page. Please note that if you send a long difficult to format hard copy with no digital copy, digitisation costs may be incurred. Please just contact us if you have any concerns or issues. Please also read our Guidelines for Submission before you send us your paper. Well prepared papers are published with priority over others. Most papers are published consecutively.

Do the contributions all have to be academic/scientific papers?

No! Not at all! We encourage laymen papers and report papers. We hope to create a balance between scientific, academic papers and more light-hearted, articles from readers so the Journal appeals to every level of interest and knowledge.

Do you have to be a member of TORRO or a subscriber to contribute an article/paper/photograph etc to the Journal?

No, although we encourage subscriptions and membership to TORRO, of course, you don't have to be a member or a subscriber to send in a paper/photograph etc. Every contributor will receive a free complimentary copy of that issue's Journal.

How long is your average turn around from receiving my paper to publishing it?

The IJMet has one of the quickest turn around in the publishing business. It is not unusual for any periodical to take 15 or more months to publish an article from initial receipt. On average, it takes the IJMet around 8-10 months to publish your contribution. On every single occasion the Editor and Editorial team will keep you informed every step of the way, from receipt, to print. Please note that those papers which conform most to our Guidelines for Submission always take priority over less organised papers which do not adhere to the Journal's in-house style and formatting.

What is your review process?

Your paper will be initially read by the Editorial team. The Editor will decide whether a review by the International Editorial Board is necessary for your paper. Then, the Editorial team will be in touch with you to let you know that your paper will be prepared for review. One of the Editorial Board members will then review your paper and submit a report. The Editorial team will then get back in touch with you and let you know of the Editorial Board's decision. If there are issues to address with your paper, usually we will require you to resubmit it once the issues have been sorted. We will, in any way we can, assist you to ensure your paper is the best it can be for publication.

Will you keep me informed of any changes whilst my paper/photograph is being prepared for publication?

Definitely. From initial receipt of your paper, the Editorial team will be in touch with you every step of the way to ensure you are happy with everything prior to print. In the case of photographs, it is less usual for a member of the team to be in touch with you unless we require some information for the photograph. We are very proud of our communication system for all papers.

Can I send you an article that has been published elsewhere?

Sadly no. It is against publishing protocol to publish a clone article which has already been published elsewhere. However, if the very special circumstance should arise whereby you have a very interesting, important article in an obsolete magazine/journal and the article can not be found anywhere, then we may consider re-publishing it so long as we point out where the article has previously been published. Even in this instance we may require you to edit your paper for suitability in the IJMet.

I featured an article from one of your past Journals - how do I reference it?

If your reference is from Journal of Meteorology the correct citation is "J. Meteorology, UK" If your reference is from the International Journal of Meteorology, then the citation is "I. J. Meteorology, UK".

Your guidance for submission states the Journal's in-house style - I don't use the Harvard referencing system - can I provide another style of referencing?

It is important that we have consistency throughout the Journal - hence why we choose a specific style for referencing. If you have any difficulties with the Harvard system, please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance or visit http://www.bournemouth.ac.uk/library/using/harvard_system.html where you can download a guide.

Why do page numbers increase over the year? Why doesn't each Journal begin at Page 1?

Many libraries, institutions and even some subscribers bind the entire Volume at the end of the year, therefore it is necessary to have successive pagination rather than new pagination each issue. As the Volume is a continuous 'book' throughout the year, the page numbers gradually increase.

Why do you want me to send my Figures and Tables as independent files?

When the Editor begins to page up your paper in the Journal ready for print, any graphics, Figures, photographs, Tables get reduced in quality from the transference. If your files are embedded in your entire document, we need to then create a brand new document which contains only that Figure we need, then create a new file of it, and then put it into the publishing programme. This almost trebles the image quality reduction. Therefore, if you send us high resolution independent files we can put this into the publishing programme immediately without any new files being created - hence no quality loss occurs and your paper is quickly, efficiently and proudly displayed in the Journal. Occasionally, Figure quality has been so poor we have had to postpone printing of that paper until the author has improved the quality of the Figures etc. Therefore if you can send us the graphics etc independently (and as high resolution JPG files of at least 600 dpi) from the beginning any delay such as this will be avoided.
