to start enjoying The International Journal of Meteorology
now!
The IJMet is the only journal where you
can read about monthly tornado and other whirlwind statistics for the
United Kingdom as well as international weather impacts and their cause.
We are the only journal completely devoted to severe weather meteorology
documentation and we are proud to be celebrating our 35th anniversary of
non-profit dedicated severe weather research publication run completely
by volunteers.
About Us
The Journal of Meteorology was set
up in 1975 in conjunction with TORRO - The TORnado and storm Research
Organisation by its founder Prof. G. T. Meaden. The aim of the Journal
was to document the research TORRO carried out on British tornadoes and
other severe weather. The Journal became a well known, prestigious
magazine which turned international in 2005.
The aim of the Journal stays the same as
it ever did in 1975 but now we cater for every single level of expertise
ranging from the enthusiastic amateur to the academic professor. We have
a well respected international editorial board (as you can see in the
contents page) and by dispatching to over 26 countries - every continent
on the Globe - we hold a very prestigious grounding for disseminating
important severe weather research for further study. Naturally,
therefore, several students each year use the Journal for their studies,
particularly dissertations or geography projects as the credible,
detailed information on UK whirlwind statistics in particular (published
monthly) contained in our Journal cannot be located anywhere else.
Annually we publish a special issue
containing all of TORRO’s research results from the previous year,
including an annual summary of whirlwinds, TORRO’s severe weather
forecasts, fatal lightning strikes, hail, thunderstorms, snow, severe
rainfall, etc. This sort of information and other more detailed research
papers on these subjects published throughout the year’s volume makes
the IJMet a must for students studying meteorology and for researchers
in the area, as well as for the general weather enthusiast.
Technical scientific papers received for
publication are considered and peer reviewed – we also very much enjoy
receiving the students’ finished dissertations after they have used the
IJMet’s data which we then edit for publication! We also review books
and DVDs of anything weather related and of course we have a well
established and continually growing wonderful photography section with a
central pull-out poster. It is this wide, eclectic and interesting range
of content material which has bred the Journal's success over these many
wonderful years - continuing to be the only Journal of its kind in the
world.
Can your library afford to be missing
this incredible source of information for your readers/students?
A
completely non-profit organisation which has thrived over 35 years ... a
real testimony to the dedication, commitment and passion the Journal
exudes. 2010 has a lot of exciting developments in store - subscribe and
be a part of this special and unique organisation.
